Signet Screening’s Director of Operations, Jill Hilvert, works with all our clients to obtain pre-employment data for effective hiring decisions. While she enjoys being behind the scenes ensuring our processes run smoothly, we wanted to spotlight Jill and let our clients get to know her better.
What is your background prior to starting at Signet Screening?
I started in the insurance industry as a receptionist before being promoted to auto claims. I earned my insurance license and worked as a licensed health and life agent. Then, I stayed at home with my kids for 10 years. I loved every minute of it, but my kids are older so it was time to go back to work and I found Signet.
What are your responsibilities at Signet, and what do you like best about your work?
My responsibilities are to train our clients to use our system so they can place orders. I monitor all orders so that background checks come back in a timely manner. I also monitor things such as county searches, national searches, education and employment verifications, drug screen results, etc.
Answering any customer service questions from general questions to billing questions is also part of my job. I love what I do! I believe providing great customer service is my strength. I’m always updating my clients, letting them know we’re on top of things so they don’t worry about anything. It’s my pleasure to make all our clients feel comfortable knowing they are working for a reputable company and can trust Signet to get them the most accurate checks – with a quick turnaround time.
What changes do you see coming in background check technology and/or regulations?
We’d like to see all states getting on the same page and creating an easier way for county searches to be researched. All states have separate sites with different ways of researching cases, which cause delays in getting the county searches back in a timely manner.
There are over 3,000 counties, and it would be great to see a standardized way of researching county cases in a more effective manner. Signet Screening really prides ourselves in great customer service and great turnaround time and these searches slow things down.
What is it like working with President Matt Messersmith?
Matt is a great person to work for. When I first started, he trained me on everything. He was very informative and detailed on explaining each step of how search processes are done.
It always feels good know that I am working for a very knowledgeable, ethical and moral person. When you have those things in play, you can feel great about your job.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time I LOVE being with my family. I’m married to a wonderful man and have 2 fantastic children. Our weekends are full of sports activities and being with family and friends. I sneak some shopping in there occasionally, because my daughter and I love to shop together. On the personal side, I love interior decorating. I sometimes have little projects working with my friends, family or neighbors on their decorating projects.
